{"id":462,"date":"2013-10-30T23:17:28","date_gmt":"2013-10-31T03:17:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/christopherdonahue.com\/?p=462"},"modified":"2013-11-01T15:24:22","modified_gmt":"2013-11-01T19:24:22","slug":"stay-off-the-borgo-pass","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christopherdonahue.com\/?p=462","title":{"rendered":"Stay Off The Borgo Pass"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Halloween, the time of year I make a special effort to <em>stay off the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Borgo_Pass\">Borgo Pass<\/a>!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Stay off the Borgo Pass!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>For the uninitiated, the <em>Borgo Pass<\/em> is high in the Carpathian mountains and basically down the street from Castle Dracula.\u00a0Only bad things can happen\u00a0if you continue on the <em>Borgo Pass<\/em> this time of year. I know. I saw on TV what happened to people who didn&#8217;t heed the warning.<\/p>\n<p>As a kid, I used to love staying up and watching old, classic horror movies on late night Saturday\u00a0 television. Each week there was a double feature starting at 11PM. Often, I would have a friend stay over night, or else brave watching those terrifying black and white flicks alone. <em>Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolfman,<\/em> etc&#8230;There was no cable TV in those ever more distant days, so the reception was a little grainy, which added to the creepiness. The first movie of the\u00a0 Saturday night double-feature started at\u00a011PM and ran to one in the morning. The second movie started at one and finished\u00a0at three.\u00a0 In between, we would drink root beer, eat pretzels, make crank telephone calls and be otherwise scared. My parents would be fast asleep.
