The streets are so narrow I imagine I&#8217;m in a black, lacquered gondola gliding between palazzos on the way to work.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/christopherdonahue.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/cropped-20170912_140552.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3163\" src=\"https:\/\/christopherdonahue.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/cropped-20170912_140552-300x78.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"78\" srcset=\"https:\/\/christopherdonahue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/cropped-20170912_140552-300x78.jpg 300w, https:\/\/christopherdonahue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/cropped-20170912_140552-768x200.jpg 768w, https:\/\/christopherdonahue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/cropped-20170912_140552.jpg 940w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One morning, a large, shiny-black hearse was inching around the tight corner on the way to the nearby local funeral home. The only thing missing was a gondolier to shout &#8220;Oy!&#8221; as he made the turn<em>. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Instead, the driver shouts:\u00a0&#8220;You&#8217;re going to be late!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s my retired friend Don who drives part-time for the funeral home.<\/p>\n<p>My reply: &#8220;I certainly hope so!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>copyright 2017 Christopher M.
