It felt like he was starting a new job, but he was going back to the old one.<\/p>\n

He had taken a week off to start the New Year and he could not believe the\u00a0effort it was taking to go back to work. He was shocked\u00a0to realize how much he didn’t\u00a0miss his job.\u00a0When he left work on that last day before vacation, \u00a0he immediately\u00a0put it all\u00a0 behind him. All the various crises he was over seeing, the struggles and years spent to get to his position, how much his job was part of his identity. ALL PACKED AWAY AT THE STROKE OF 5 pm.\u00a0It was like he used a mind eraser. He forgot all about work. And it was easy to do, because he spent more time with family and with the interests he really loved. In short, he entirely forgot about his job and didn’t miss it.<\/p>\n

And now he was going back to work.<\/p>\n

The cold, white sun was not warming\u00a0him up on the train platform. It was just after dawn and the sunlight came straight onto\u00a0his face through the bare trees.\u00a0 The light was blinding but\u00a0no warmth. Nada. He closed his eyes.\u00a0What’s the\u00a0problem? he thought.\u00a0He was glad the cold was back.<\/p>\n

He leaned back against the railing as he stood on the train platform and waited for the 6:45 AM. \u00a0The railing was at just the correct height so he could lean back and simultaneously rest his back pack on it.\u00a0A\u00a0fellow commuter, a regular, came up and stood next to him.\u00a0She leaned back and with a quick shrug\u00a0rested her large purse on the railing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis bag is getting heavy,”\u00a0\u00a0she\u00a0laughed.<\/p>\n

“You’re right about that, ” he said.<\/p>\n
