Donning a\u00a0crisp white shirt and red\u00a0 neck-tie, he grabbed his blue sport-coat and headed out to work.\u00a0\u00a0Energized, he strode\u00a0down the sidewalk, he\u00a0thought\u00a0how\u00a0the humid and sticky summer weather was lasting right up to the end of September.<\/p>\n<p>He hailed a cab, climbed in and gave the cabbie directions to the morning meeting. The driver apologized\u00a0because the AC wasn&#8217;t working.\u00a0&#8220;No problem,\u00a0&#8221;\u00a0he said, &#8220;We&#8217;ve got to enjoy this weather while we can.&#8221;\u00a0Cruising along with the warm breeze streaming through the windows, he thought of his wife and the pleasant weekend they just enjoyed. His thoughts turned toward his meeting just as the\u00a0cab pulled up at the address. Leaning forward to pay the driver, he glanced in the rear view mirror and noticed lines around his eyes for the first time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/christopherdonahue.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/cropped-cropped-20160917_085448-7.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2373\" src=\"https:\/\/christopherdonahue.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/cropped-cropped-20160917_085448-7-300x82.jpg\" alt=\"cropped-cropped-20160917_085448-7.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"82\" srcset=\"https:\/\/christopherdonahue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/cropped-cropped-20160917_085448-7-300x82.jpg 300w, https:\/\/christopherdonahue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/cropped-cropped-20160917_085448-7-768x210.jpg 768w, https:\/\/christopherdonahue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/cropped-cropped-20160917_085448-7.jpg 940w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The meeting went well. Afterwards, he decided to walk back to his office and enjoy the last of the warm weather. On the way, his reflection in a store-front window caught his eye. He was surprised to see a paunchy middle-age business man glancing back at him.\u00a0 It was <em>him<\/em> of course but not how he <em>felt<\/em>. Incredibly, and worse,\u00a0the\u00a0reflection was <em>older <\/em>than he imagined he looked. &#8220;Oh well, &#8221; he smiled and hurried along.<\/p>\n<p>Outside his office, he ran into an old friend.
