Then there&#8217;s <em>Louis II or Ludwig II<\/em>,\u00a0better known as <em>Mad King Ludwig<\/em> of Bavaria, not to be confused with <em>Louis IV or Ludwig IV<\/em>, better known as <em>Louis the Bavarian<\/em>,\u00a0a different king from Munich.\u00a0<em>Louis VI<\/em>,\u00a0more commonly known as <em>Louis the Fat<\/em>,\u00a0\u00a0spent much of his time subduing unruly French barons and eating comfort food.\u00a0 <em>Louis VII<\/em>,\u00a0known as <em>Louis the Younger<\/em>, was a co-leader of the failed Second Crusade. <em>Louis the IX, or St. Louis<\/em> was better at being holy than being a general. <em>Louis XI<\/em> was exiled to Dauphine and battled the Burgundians. <em>Louis XII<\/em> kept France in the <em>Italian Wars<\/em>. <em>Louis XIII<\/em> married Anne of Austria and really was a trendsetter popularizing the eponymous<em> Louis XIII Style<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0 <em>Louis XIV<\/em>, the famous <em>Sun King<\/em>, built Versailles, had\u00a0a Beatles song written about him, and rocked his own <em>Louis XIV Style<\/em>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>The Louies go on and on! <\/em><\/p>\n<p>A long, wonderful journey is coming to an\u00a0end.\u00a0 I started reading the <i>Encyclopedia Britannica Concise Edition<\/i> (2010) on January 15, 2010.\u00a0\u00a0The plan was to read a page a day and I would\u00a0usually read every night in bed before drifting off.\u00a0I stayed on schedule\u00a0for over three years until vacations, an illness, and other distractions made me fall off pace. But it was so enjoyable, I just couldn&#8217;t read to catch up.\u00a0 Night after night, page after page of interesting biographies, historical tidbits, interesting science facts,\u00a0all kinds of fascinating things.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/christopherdonahue.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cropped-20160515_072303-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2125\" src=\"https:\/\/christopherdonahue.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cropped-20160515_072303-2-300x89.jpg\" alt=\"cropped-20160515_072303-2.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"89\" srcset=\"https:\/\/christopherdonahue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cropped-20160515_072303-2-300x89.jpg 300w, https:\/\/christopherdonahue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cropped-20160515_072303-2-768x229.jpg 768w, https:\/\/christopherdonahue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cropped-20160515_072303-2.jpg 940w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And now, I find myself within thirty pages of the end.\u00a0 All good things must come to an end, and the pleasure was most certainly found in this journey.<\/p>\n<p>Where else could I have come across a page full of <em>Louies<\/em>?*<\/p>\n<p>Not to mention the Charles&#8217;, Edwards, Fredericks, Georges, Henrys etc&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>*several actually!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Copyright 2016 Magnus Incognito<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Louis I, the Pious, son of Charlemagne, not to be confused with Louis I or Ludwig I, King of Bavaria.
